Songbird Retreat offers peace and quiet, combined with extensive amenities creating the comforts of home. We overlook one of two islands on Gardom Lake and are adjacent to a day-use park accessed by a short walk along a lakeshore trail. The park has a sandy beach, diving platforms and walking trails. We provide visitors outdoor chairs for relaxing, our canoes and rowboat with electric motor, picnic tables, firepit overlooking the lake, and seasonal use of our outdoor hot tub. Note that while you have use of DVD players, our facility is television signal free – offering a true opportunity for retreat. For those wishing it, we do offer high-speed wireless internet access.

Swim in the lake and watch the clouds gently scud across the sky, paddle one of our canoes on quiet waters in the evening and watch painted turtles, or stroll on forest trails or quiet roadways, smelling the poplar and wild rose. Read (borrow from our extensive library), relax, write, paint, take photos… or just sit and take it all in!

Gardom Lake has many natural predators of mosquitoes (such as swallows and dragonflies) so mosquitoes are rarely a problem.

Songbird Retreat is adult-oriented; the entire building and our grounds are completely non smoking and pet free.

Your accommodation is in an energy efficient building; bedrooms and lounge area are naturally cool throughout the summer. For the cold seasons, there is central forced air heating as well as additional individual room heating.

We are a BC Tourism approved B&B.

Rooms

Osprey Room is equipped with a king-sized bed, private sink, television (optional wheel-in) and DVD / CD player, sound system, desk, and reading chair.

Eagle Room is equipped with a queen and single bed and private sink.

Both Osprey and Eagle rooms overlook the lake and have direct outside access to a seasonal hot tub.

You also have full use of a common lounge area, with table and chairs, chesterfield, additional television, writing desk, bar fridge and sink, microwave and electric kettle.

Osprey and Eagle rooms share a bathroom equipped with bathtub and shower, located off the lounge area. Contact us for rates for guaranteed private use of bathroom.

Food

Options for your stay are flexible. We can offer breakfast with your stay or you may discuss self-cook options with us. We offer shared use of the main kitchen if longer-stay guests wish.

We offer healthy BC organic foods wherever possible with a focus on vegetarian food; meat options are available on request. Our kitchen is experienced with gluten free and low-sugar meals, and is run to Food Safe operator standards. We avoid deep fat frying.

Location

Songbird Retreat is located 3.2 km off Hwy 97 B along Gardom Lake Road – just far enough off the highway that you won’t hear highway or train noise. The road is paved all the way, and regularly ploughed in winter.

We are located close to the amenities of Salmon Arm (15 min), Enderby (12 min), Vernon (35 min), and Kelowna. The Kelowna airport is approximately one hour’s drive away (shuttle options are available – contact us for details).

Gardom Lake is centrally located to enjoy all that the Shuswap and Okanagan have to offer – from the beaches of Mara and Shuswap Lakes, to hiking in Mount Revelstoke National Park hiking, to the cultural life of downtown Kelowna.

Small Group Retreats

We work cooperatively with nearby owners of rental accommodation on Gardom Lake and may be able to accommodate small group retreats, up to about fifteen people. Contact us for details.
